Bed size

What size is your bed? Is it too big, too small, or just right? If you had to buy a new bed today, what size would you get?

Zen and I share a full/double size bed. Sometimes it's fine. Other times, when Zen's elbow is in my ear or his forearm is across my forehead, or when I come back from the bathroom and he's in full starfish position, it's way too freaking small. I am hoping/planning to replace our bed this year. A queen size bed is only 6 inches (15.24cm) wider than what we have now. A king is 23(!!!!) inches (58.42cm) wider. I like the idea of a king size bed, but it will take up a LOT of our little bedroom. Any thoughts?

For reference, this is our floor plan, we're in the 12 x 12 bedroom.

We have a queen bed and it's plenty big for us, although not always when all five cats join us. We couldn't get a king into our room, not with the bureau and bookcases we have in it now. Sounds like you have the same problem. There are times when a queen size bed is just right.

I have tried both a double and a queen bed, and although it's only a 6 inch difference, it feels *much* bigger. Personally, I would not get a king because, first of all, a bigger bed = more hassle (more effort to change sheets, bigger blankets are harder to fit into a washing machine, etc.) and second and most important for me: I feel very cramped when furniture is too close together and doesn't let me easily walk around.

That said, I sleep alone, and apart from a couple sleepovers, I have never had to think about how much space I'd need if I was sharing a bed with someone.

I think a queen would be enough, but if you're unsure, go mattress shopping together. Mattress stores let you lie down and try them out, so while you're testing them for comfort, you can also see how you feel about the size. I'm not sure how you'd feel about that...I'm a little self-conscious myself, but even if you just sit down on the edge, seeing/feeling the dimensions in person would give you a much better idea than numbers alone could.

I have a twin-sized bed. This is good because due to respiratory issues (I need to be able to move around in my sleep to breathe easier), I can't/won't share a bed with anyone else.
